Barnett is a Florida native.
His youth was spent fishing the salt-water coastal flats to the black water banks of the Saint Johns River. The cry of the osprey echoes in his creative mind, while images of gold and turquoise swim just beneath the silent surface of his canvas. It is God's gift of life that fills his palette with vivid colors. Mr. Barnett's works in fine art have been described as realistic/impressionistic. The splash of marlin fin, the silent wing of eagles, the movement of muscle under fur of wolves, panther and Florida black bear are captured in bronze or stroke of brush. All move through the myriad of styles, to present natures wonders in color and form creating a sense of being able to "reach in and touch" or become a part of the subject or scene depicted. Mr. Barnett's works in fine art are part of private, commercial, government and military collections throughout the United States. These works have found their place in Russia, England, Canada, and more than 25 other countries. His work with humanitarian and environmental good cause issues has established him as an artist of international note. No matter where he goes or subject captured the artist's signature is etched deep in his first love the sea. His works have been a part of the United States Senate Collection in Washington, D.C. and the Florida House of Representatives in Tallahassee. Mr. Barnett's contributions toward humanitarian and environmental concerns have been recognized by Florida State, national and international leaders on the highest levels. In 1990, he was given recognition from the floor of the Florida House of Representatives. During that legislative session, Florida's governor Bob Martinez and the full cabinet applied their signatures to Mr. Barnett's fine art reproductions, in support of the Florida Parks Division. Since then, over 35 celebrities, including Former President H. Bush, have also added their signatures to the artist's, to provide a revenue source for good cause issues. Actors, athletes, news and sports commentators, clerics, military and government officials have recognized the need to support issues of interest to Mr. Barnett. During this same period, original and fine art reproductions were also presented to the Foundation for Social Invention, Moscow, in the former USSR. His work continues internationally, with donations of his fine art reproductions to over 200 charities in Canada alone. By combining Mr. Barnett's art with the positive efforts of those who work hard to make a difference, results are being achieved. His interest in support of United States military families and those of other counties has taken him to the high Arctic as a guest of the 2nd Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in a Canadian sovereignty operation. He has also participated in foot patrols with the Royal Canadian Regiment in the killing fields of Bosnia. Mr. Barnett is an honorary Cannon Cocker, U.S. Artillery, and an honorary gunner in the 2nd. Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. He is also an honorary submariner, courtesy of the U.S. Navy. In 1990, the British Royal Navy received Mr. Barnett's remarqued print, titled "Cannon Patch", aboard HMS Birmingham. This gift of friendship symbolically returned a 17th century British frigate to Portsmouth, England, from its resting-place beneath the silent surface of the Florida Keys. In the spring of 1996, he was guest of honor at a regimental dinner, hosted by the 16th Royal Logistic Corp, Oxfordshire, England. During that visit to the UK, he was given a private tour of Parliament and allowed to attend the House of Commons and the House of Lords, while in session. He has witness U.S. Navy operations first hand aboard the Guided Missile Cruiser USS Philippine Seas and the Trident Submarine USS Nebraska. Mr. Barnett's contributions for U.S. Navy families, may be viewed on the quarterdeck as well as four other decks of NAS Hospital, Jacksonville. The courtesy extended to Mr. Barnett by United States and other militaries have given him front line experience and a working knowledge of humanitarian issues. Mr. Barnett has contributed his works to benefit medical research and patient care at home and internationally. With a history of support to hospitals throughout Florida and medical facilities elsewhere, including his most recent donations in fine art reproductions to over 41 Florida Health Clinics, the Barry Barnett tradition of helping continues. With new endeavors now being selected, Mr. Barnett has also donated in support of indigent health care, handicap issues, manatee and sea turtle protection and the study of history. The list is much longer then those shared and the tradition of care continues. Barry Barnett's artist bio one of creation is based on giving and service to others. There is more. The stories of service that are included within this artist bio are done so in recognition and appreciation to those who make Barry Barnett's support a reality in their lives. Without these real everyday heroes, those who make Barry's gifts work for their good cause(s), his service and gifts of fine art would be meaningless. There is truth to the phrase, "faith and works." These good people are that simple truth. By God's grace, the work goes on. |
